Warriors’ Howden Nets Pair of Goals, Canada Downs Czech Republic 3-1
GRAND FORKS, ND – Brett Howden (Moose Jaw Warriors) scored twice to propel Canada to a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic to move to 2-0 at the 2016 World Under-18 Hockey Championship.
In his first game with Team Canada at the tournament, Howden opened the scoring late in the period at the 17:48 mark to make it 1-0 Canada. Medicine Hat Tigers forward Mason Shaw gathered the assist on the goal.
Just over one minute later, Medicine Hat Tigers defenceman David Quenneville notched his first goal of the tournament to give Canada a 2-0 lead through the opening 20 minutes of play.
Howden then potted his second goal of the game in the middle frame to give Canada a 3-0 lead with Shaw earning the lone assist on the goal.
Shots on goal favoured the Czech Republic 39-28 in the contest. Canada capitalized once on the power play in three opportunities while Czech Republic finished 1/6 on the man advantage.
