Tigers’ Quenneville Scores but Canada falls 6-5 to Sweden
Linus Lindstrom scored the decisive shootout winner in the third round to hand Canada’s its first loss at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship and end their pursuit of a gold medal opportunity. Sweden previaled in the shootout and won by a score of 6-5.
Medicine Hat Tigers defenceman David Quenneville scored midway through the second period to tie the game at 2-2.
With the score 5-3 for Sweden with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation, Canada scored twice as Tigers forward Mason Shaw assisted on a goal from William Bitten to cut the score to 5-4. Jordan Kyrou then tied the game at 5-5 to force overtime.
Warriors forward Brett Howden netted a goal for Canada in the shootout but Lias Andersson and Linus Lindstrom provided goals for Sweden to claim the victory.
Canada finished 1/3 on the power play while Slovakia went scoreless in two opportunities. Shots on goal favoured Canada 59-34.
