Rebels’ Mapletoft named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Bank of Montreal MasterCard – Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Justin Mapletoft of the Red Deer Rebels. Mapletoft earned player of the week honours by recording eight points (3G-5A) in three games. Mapletoft helped lead the Rebels to a perfect 3-0 record for the week.
On Wednesday, November 22, Mapletoft scored two goals and two assists in a 7-5 win against the visiting Kamloops Blazers. On Friday, November 23, in Cranbrook, Mapletoft recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Kootenay ICE.
On Saturday, November 24, Mapletoft recorded two assists in a 4-1 win against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The 19-year-old from Calgary, Alta., leads the Rebels in scoring with 49 points (16G-33A) in 25 games played and is currently fifth in league scoring. Mapletoft was selected by the New York Islanders in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
