McEwen named Broncos Interim Head Coach
Swift Current, Sask. – The Swift Current Broncos have announced Taras McEwen has been promoted to Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
McEwen had previously worked as an assistant coach for the Broncos and Winnipeg ICE.
The Whitewood, Sask. product spent five years as a scout for the ICE while serving as General Manager/Head Coach for the Winnipeg Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
He was on the bench as an assistant coach for Team Saskatchewan at the 2017-2018 WHL Cup.
The McEwen family ties run deep within the organization.
Taras’s father, Brad, was with the Broncos from 1998-2003, starting as an assistant coach before being named Head Coach and General Manager.
The news comes as Swift Current and Devan Praught mutually agree to part ways.
“As an organization we would like to thank Devan for his all of his hard work during two-and-a-half seasons with the club and wish him all the best moving forward,” said General Manager Chad Leslie.
The Broncos host the Medicine Hat Tigers in a divisional clash on November 29 at 7:00 p.m. CST.
