Catton and Yakemchuk named to CHL Second All-Star Team for 2023-24
Saginaw, Mich. – Two Western Hockey League players have been named to the CHL Second All-Star Team for the 2023-24 season.
The CHL All-star and all-rookie teams were selected by NHL Central Scouting based on regular-season play along with all-star selections and award winners from across the CHL’s three member leagues: the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Berkly Catton, Spokane Chiefs
The cat is out of the bag: WHL Player of the Year nominee Berkly Catton is a major player to watch in the weeks and seasons ahead.
Catton cracked the CHL Second All-Star Team after tallying a career-best 54 goals and 62 assists for 116 points in 68 games.
His 54 goals rank fourth and his 116 points place fifth across the CHL’s member leagues, while Catton led the WHL with seven shorthanded markers.
The Saskatoon, Sask. product also recorded two 10-game-or-more point streaks, scoring 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 13 games from December 2, 2023, to January 9, 2024, and adding 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 14 games from February 4, 2024, to March 5, 2024.
NHL Central Scouting has Catton placed eighth among North American Skaters ahead of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Carter Yakemchuk, Calgary Hitmen
This isn’t the last time Carter Yakemchuk’s name will be called this month.
The top 2024 NHL Draft Prospect is ranked sixth among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting after a record-setting season.
Yakemchuk put up a career-high 30 goals, including 10 powerplay markers and three game-winners, and 41 assists for 71 points in his third WHL campaign.
The 18-year-old finished second on his team in goals, assists and points.
A 6-foot-3, right-shot defenceman, Yakemchuk’s 30 goals led all blueliners and set a new franchise record for single-season goals by a defenceman.
