Blades sign Hutzinger to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement
Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce the signing of 2007-born forward Konstantin Hutzinger to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreement.
A dual citizen of Austria and Canada, Hutzinger does not occupy one of the team’s three import roster spots.
“Konstantin came to camp motivated to show he belongs at this level,” said Blades President and General Manager Colin Priestner. “His strong play in preseason and over the last two weeks demonstrated that he’s ready to be a versatile Swiss army knife type guy for us, who can play up and down the lineup.”
The 5-foot-7 winger attended Blades Training Camp as an unsigned player under the team’s 50-player protected list. Hutzinger earned himself a spot on the team’s opening night roster after scoring four points (2G, 2A) in four preseason games.
“I’m so happy to be here and very honoured to be with this great organization,” said Hutzinger.
Hutzinger collect his first career WHL point in Saturday’s 5-2 home victory against the Prince Albert Raiders in the Go Merlin Ford Lincoln Home Opener at SaskTel Centre. The Wels, AUT product assisted on Edmonton Oilers draft pick David Lewandowski’s game-winning goal in the second period. Hutzinger’s appeared in all four regular season games and has registered seven shots on goal.
The 19-year-old winger played for the British Columbia Hockey League’s (BCHL) Cranbrook Elks last season, scoring 12 goals and 18 assists in 45 games. In 17 playoff games, Hutzinger lit the lamp eight times and dished two helpers.
Hutzinger represented Austria at the 2025 Division 1A U20 World Junior Championship last December and was tied for the tournament lead in scoring with 12 points (5G, 7A) in seven games. Hutzinger’s performance helped his country finish third in the tournament.
The Blades want to congratulate Konstantin on earning a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement and welcome his family to Blade City!
