2025 WHL Graduates: Lethbridge Hurricanes

Over the summer, the Western Hockey League will be celebrating the WHL Graduates from the 2024-25 season in a 22-part, team-by-team series. 

Today, we continue with the graduating players from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Brayden Edwards (F)
Hometown: Abbotsford, B.C.
WHL Career Stats: 247 GP GP – 82 G-120 A – 202 PTS
WHL Draft: 2019 – 6th Round, 127th Overall (Winnipeg)

We call him ‘Steady Eddy’ for a reason.

For parts of four seasons, Brayden Edwards’ steady presence has proved to be invaluable for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Selected in the sixth round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft by the Winnipeg ICE and having only played 11 games with the former franchise, Lethbridge has been Edwards’ true home for the duration of his junior hockey career. After an 11-game stint with the ICE, a 17-year-old Edwards – along with a pair of WHL Draft selections – was acquired by the Hurricanes in January 2022. Since then, Edwards has proved to be a constant performer for the Canes, recording career-highs in points at the conclusion of each season. After recording a substantial 28 points during the 2022-23 regular season, Edwards’ offensive output erupted when he returned for the following season. In 66 regular season appearances, the Abbotsford, B.C. local posted 70 points (31 G-39 A) – and he wasn’t done there. Edwards’ best season came during his 20-year-old campaign, as he clocked a career-high of 77 points (31 G-46 A) in 65 skates. Edwards finished the 2024-25 regular season with the second-most points among Hurricanes skaters, sitting just five back from Winnipeg Jets prospect, Brayden Yager. The forward’s milestone year did not go unnoticed as the Pittsburgh Penguins’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Wiles-Barre/Scranton Penguins, inked Edwards to a two-year, AHL contract starting in the 2025-26 season.

Jordan Gustafson (F)
Hometown: Ardrossan, Alta.
WHL Career Stats: 162 GP – 61 G-75 A – 136 PTS
WHL Draft: 2019 – 1st Round, 8th Overall (Seattle)
NHL Draft: 2022 – 3rd Round, 79th Overall (Vegas)

For the first time in six seasons, the ‘Gus Bus,’ manned by 21-year-old forward Jordan Gustafson, will not make its usual route through the Western League’s hot spots. Instead, the recent graduate is hitting the open road as a prospect of the Vegas Golden Knights. A third-round selection by Vegas in the 2022 NHL Draft, Gustafson exits the WHL following a remarkable junior hockey career that brims with personal and team-wide successes. Originally selected eighth overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, Gustafson quickly began to turn heads at the WHL level. At just 15 years old, the budding star made his WHL debut with the T-Birds – logging two shots and a plus-minus of +1 in a 5-1 triumph over the Tri-City Americans on December 13, 2019. Gustafson then suited up in 23 regular season appearances with Seattle during the 2020-21 season, recording 11 points (4 G-7 A) as he rapidly became a mainstay on the roster. The Ardrossan, Alta. local spent parts of five seasons with the T-Birds, suiting up in over 150 regular season games during that span. However, the highlight of Gustafson’s tenure in Seattle came during the 2023 WHL Playoffs, as he raised the Ed Chynoweth Cup following a five-game series with the Winnipeg ICE. Gustafson also spent a season as the Thunderbirds’ captain before finding himself on the move for the 2024-25 WHL Season. In December 2024, Gustafson was acquired by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for forward Hayden Pakkala and a plethora of draft capital. Making eight regular season appearances with Lethbridge, Gustafson helped the Hurricanes reach the 2025 Eastern Conference Championship series before bowing out to the eventual, WHL Champions, the Medicine Hat Tigers. In total, the veteran forward skated in 44 post-season games, recording 26 points (9 G-17 A).

Logan McCutcheon (D)
Hometown: Saskatoon, Sask.
WHL Career Stats: 299 GP – 23 G-124 A–147 PTS
WHL Draft: 2019 – 3rd Round, 60th Overall (Lethbridge)

After a six-year tenure with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the winds of change have began to swirl around Logan McCutcheon. The 21-year-old is being blown toward future endeavours outside of the WHL, as McCutcheon joins teammates Brayden Edwards and Jordan Gustafson on the Hurricanes’ list of recent graduates. Although McCutcheon’s graduating marks an exciting and new experience for the blueliner, the move also comes with some sentiment and emotion. Originally selected in the third round (60th overall) by the Hurricanes in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, McCutcheon spent his entire major junior career in Alberta’s Windy City. From his WHL debut in September 2019 to his final appearance in May 2025, all of McCutcheon’s junior hockey accolades have come in a Hurricanes sweater. He recorded his first career point in front of a home crowd on March 13, 2025 and recorded his first goal with the Canes on April 25, 2021. McCutcheon was just one regular season appearance shy of 300 career games with the Hurricanes and only 37 behind Lethbridge’s all-time leader in games played (Shane Peacock – 336 games between 1989-94). And, of his 299 total appearances, McCutcheon bragged an iron-man streak of 295 consecutive games with Lethbridge. McCutcheon also boasts an impressive 147 points (23 G-124 A) from the blue line during his career. In the 2024-25 season, McCutcheon also served as one of the Club’s alternate captains. Having completed his WHL career, McCutcheon will now join Quinnipiac University’s Men’s Hockey Program for the 2025-26 season.
