BLAZERS EDGE ROCKETS – Kris Versteeg scored once and added two assists to lead the visiting Kamloops Blazers (3-1-0-0) to a 3-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets (1-2-0-0) in one of four Western Hockey League contests on Friday, September 30th.

rReid Jorgensen (pictured) and Roman Tesliuk also scored for the Blazers in the victory. Devan Dubnyk turned aside 13 of 15 shots he faced for his second straight win.

rThomas Raffl netted his first career WHL tally for the Rockets in the loss while Troy Bodie also scored. Derek Yeomans stopped 17 of 20 shots in a losing cause.

rElsewhere on Friday, Czech rookie Petr Kalus exploded for three goals and three assists to lead the Regina Pats (3-1-0-0) to a 6-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels (0-3-0-0).

rGarrett Festerling added a pair of goals and an assist for the Pats, who win their third straight contest, while Matt Robinson also scored in the win. David Reekie stopped 22 shots for his second win of the season.

rAlex Poulter netted his first career WHL goal for the Rebels, who have dropped three straight, while Ashton Rome also scored in the loss. James Reimer made 28 saves in the defeat.

rIn Lethbridge, Kris Hogg scored the game-winner and added an assist to lead the Hurricanes (2-1-0-0) to a 4-3 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings (1-2-0-0) on Friday night.

rDwight King scored his first in the WHL for the Hurricanes while Michael Kaye and Ken Petkau also tallied in the win. Kevin Opsahl stopped 26 shots for the victory.

rChad Erb netted his first career WHL goal for the Wheat Kings in the loss while Corey Courchene and Theran Yeo also tallied in the defeat. Mike Nichol stopped 32 of 36 shots for the Wheaties in a losing cause.

rIn other Friday action, Mitch Bartley scored a goal and set up another to lead the Vancouver Giants (1-0-0-1) to a 5-1 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars (1-2-0-0).

rMichal Repik and David Rutherford each tallied their first WHL goals in the win for Vancouver while Kyle Lamb and Cody Franson also scored in the victory. Dustin Slade turned aside 17 of 18 shots for his first win in a Giants uniform.

rDan Gendur had the lone goal for the Cougars in the loss while Scott Bowles stopped 30 of 35 shots for the defeat.
