CIS CANADA-WEST CONFERENCE REPORT – University of Saskatchewan Huskies forward Jon Barkman is the Canada-West Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending March 6th.

rBarkman, a 25-year-old native of Steinbach, Manitoba, scored four goals and added an assist to help the Huskies to a 2-game sweep of the Manitoba Bisons in the Great Plains division final on Friday and Saturday.

rThe fifth-year senior scored twice – including the winner – and added an assist in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Bisons. He followed up with another two-goal performance in Saturday’s 4-3 series-clinching win, where he also scored the game-winning goal.

rBarkman, who studies Arts & Sciences, played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Saskatoon Blades and Prince George Cougars.

rElsewhere in Canada-West playoff action, former WHLer Brad Tutschek had a five-point weekend to lead the University of Alberta Golden Bears to a 2-game sweep of the Calgary Dinos in the Mounatin division final on Friday and Saturday.

rTutschek, who’s WHL career saw stops in Edmonton, Kootenay, Medicine Hat and Seattle, scored twice and added an assist in Friday’s 4-3 win over the Dinos. He followed up with a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 7-1 series-clinching victory.

rThe Golden Bears will host the Huskies next weekend in the Canada-West conference final, while the Manitoba Bisons will host the Dinos in the Wildcard final.
