McKenna, Cagnoni, and Meneghin named to CHL Third All-Star Team for 2023-24
Saginaw, Mich. – Three Western Hockey League players have been named to the CHL Third All-Star Team for the 2023-24 season.
The CHL All-star and all-rookie teams were selected by NHL Central Scouting based on regular-season play along with all-star selections and award winners from across the CHL’s three member leagues: the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Gavin McKenna, Medicine Hat Tigers
Remember the name, junior hockey fans.
Gavin McKenna is also the WHL and CHL Rookie of the Year after finishing second in scoring among all WHL rookies with 34 goals and 63 assists for 97 points.
He topped all WHL rookies with 63 assists and 12 power-play goals.
The 2026 NHL Draft-eligible winger logged a career-high six points (one goal, five assists) against Tri-City on January 6, 2024, and had another 14 games where he piled up three or more points, including two hat tricks.
Luca Cagnoni, Portland Winterhawks
It’s not luck.
It’s just Luca.
The Portland Winterhawks standout led all WHL defencemen with 90 points (18 goals, 72 assists) and an impressive +47 rating through 65 regular-season contests.
Cagnoni is the first WHL blueliner to hit the 90-point mark since 1993-94.
The San Jose Sharks prospect put up 28 multi-point matches, highlighted by a career-best five-point (one goal, four assists) night against Kamloops on November 8, 2023.
Harrison Meneghin, Lethbridge Hurricanes
Harrison Meneghin has been a reliable force between the pipes for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The 19-year-old made a career-high 53 appearances, posting a 27-20-5-0 record to go along with a 2.59 goals-against average, .919 SV% and three shutouts.
He ranked among the WHL leaders in several major goaltending categories, including save percentage (.919, second), shutouts (3, T-4th), minutes played (3,040, fourth) and saves (1,483, fifth), earning a nomination for the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the WHL Goaltender of the Year.
The 2024 NHL Draft-eligible netminder also registered four outings with 40 or more stops, including a 53-save effort against the Medicine Hat Tigers on March 22.
