Portland Winterhawks advance to Western Conference Championship
The Portland Winterhawks will continue their flight to the WHL’s Western Conference Championship.
The U.S. Division champions clinched a berth in the Western Conference Championship with a 5-0 win over Everett in Game 4 to eliminate the Silvertips.
Edmonton Oilers prospect James Stefan’s sixth tally of the postseason would stand as the game-winner, while netminder Jan Spunar posted his first WHL playoff shutout with a 27-save performance.
Seattle Kraken defensive prospect Tyson Jugnauth erupted for four goals and four assists in four games, leading all Portland skaters in points in the second round.
Alternate Captain Kyle Chyzowski led the Winterhawks with six goals in the series.
Spunar continued his all-star play to maintain a perfect 4-0-0-0 record in the second round, posting a 1.41 goals-against average, a .954 save percentage and a shutout.
Portland is 8-0-0-0 in the postseason and stands as the only remaining undefeated team.
This marks the first time since the team has advanced to the third round since 2015.
The Winterhawks await the winner of the Western Conference second-round series between the Prince George Cougars and Kelowna Rockets.
