2016 WHL Pre-Season Opens as Warriors Edge Broncos
16-year-old goalie Adam Evanoff made 27 saves Tuesday leading the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 2-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos at Mosaic Place to open the WHL’s 2016 pre-season schedule.
Goals from Luka Burzan and Ryan Bowen propelled Moose Jaw to a 2-0 lead, while Colby Sissons averted a shutout for the Broncos.
The contest marked the beginning of the pre-season in the WHL, which will be in full swing come this weekend as teams evaluate prospects and whittle down rosters.
This weekend will also feature three pre-season tournaments. The Regina Pats’ pre-season tournament runs from September 1st-3rd and will feature the host Pats, Moose Jaw Warriors, Saskatoon Blades, Swift Current Broncos and Prince Albert Raiders.
The Red Deer Rebels’ tournament takes place on September 2nd and 3rd and will see the Prince George Cougars, Calgary Hitmen and Edmonton Oil Kings travel to Central Alberta as the Rebels play host.
The Everett Silvertips will host six teams at XFINITY Arena from September 2nd-4th. The Portland Winterhawks, Tri-City Americans, Vancouver Giants, Spokane Chiefs, Seattle Thunderbirds and Victoria Royals will all appear in the pre-season tournament.
