Wild One-on-One with Don Nachbaur: Part Six
Don Nachbaur begins his first season with the Wenatchee Wild this fall – we asked the club’s newest head coach a few questions, and we’re introducing him one answer at a time…
Q6: What is something about you that our fans and our players would be surprised to learn?
A6: That’s a good question – I think today’s players are so detailed in many areas, the first thing you do is you go to the internet and check on who your new coach is. Most of the players already know my nickname, so that’s a good thing – they’ve called me that on calls, and I’ve spoken about that. The things that you probably don’t know about me is are that I played in the Western Hockey League, that I’ve gone through the same process that they’re going through right now. I was drafted, I played 15 years of pros, and I’ve coached a long time – they probably don’t know all the players that I’ve coached along the way who made it to the National Hockey League, but they most likely will know through their hometowns of some of the ex-players that I coached.
I don’t think there are many secrets out there of myself – it’s on the internet, and people will research you right away. Maybe the one thing they won’t know is that my son played in Wenatchee, and I spent a lot of time in Wenatchee watching him play, whether it was U18 or the Wenatchee Wild in the B.C. junior league. For me, it’s out there – most players will know all the stuff.
