A proud second-year member of the Western Hockey League, the Wenatchee Wild are continuing a celebrated WHL legacy that dates back to Edmonton, Alberta in 1996, continuing in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba. These are the ICE alumni, who are now also members of the #WildFamily, making news in American pro hockey this week:
NHL
SAM REINHART, 2010-15 (29 GP, 19-20-39) – Has been busy in the scoring column for the Florida Panthers, starting with a three-point game last Thursday in a 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. His power play goal with less than two minutes to go put the Panthers in front to stay, and he added a pair of assists in a game that saw the Flyers erase a 3-0 Florida lead. He would add assists Saturday in a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks and a 2-1 shootout win at the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday.
PEYTON KREBS, 2016-21 (28 GP, 3-7-10) – Charged back onto the Buffalo Sabres stat sheet on Monday with two assists in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings – the first of those assists came on former Winnipeg teammate Zach Benson’s first-period goal. His assist Wednesday set up Owen Power’s goal with less than five minutes remaining in a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers.
ZACH BENSON, 2020-23 (23 GP, 4-5-9) – Factored into the scoring for the Buffalo Sabres twice this past week, starting with an assist last Thursday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. On Monday, his goal just 98 seconds in opened the scoring in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
CONOR GEEKIE, 2019-24 (26 GP, 4-4-8) – Broke out of a scoring drought with a goal and an assist in last Thursday’s 8-1 Tampa Bay Lightning rout of the San Jose Sharks – both points came in the game’s first seven-and-a-half minutes, and his goal stood up as the eventual game-winner.
ZACK OSTAPCHUK, 2022-23 (14 GP, 0-2-2) – Returned to the stat sheet for the Ottawa Senators with an assist in Wednesday’s 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
AHL
CALE FLEURY, 2014-18 (14GP, 4-7-11) – Posted a power play assist in the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ 6-4 victory last Thursday against the Texas Stars, in a game where the teams combined to score five power play goals.
CHASE WHEATCROFT, 2021-22 (21 GP, 5-8-13) – Picked up a power play goal for the Texas Stars in that same contest, his first power play marker since October 19.
NOAH PHILP, 2015-17 (17 GP, 6-5-11) – Had points in a pair of Bakersfield Condors road games, starting with an assist in Friday’s 5-3 loss to the San Diego Gulls. He followed that with the game’s opening goal and an assist in Sunday’s 5-3 loss against the Ontario Reign.
MATTHEW SAVOIE, 2019-24 (20 GP, 4-7-11) – Posted an assist on the opening goal of that same Bakersfield Condors loss to the Gulls, busting up a three-game point-scoring drought.
MICHAEL MILNE, 2018-22 (17 GP, 5-6-11) – Scored a shorthanded goal for the Iowa Wild Sunday in his team’s 4-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals, his first goal in a five-week stretch.
LUKE PHILP, 2015-17 (18 GP, 3-6-9) – Tallied a second-period goal in the Hershey Bears’ 5-4 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Sunday
CARSON LAMBOS, 2021-22 (19 GP, 1-3-4) – Scored his first goal of the season for the Iowa Wild in their 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night.
ECHL
BRILEY WOOD, 2022-24 (17 GP, 3-8-11) – Scored three goals over back-to-back Utah Grizzlies games over the weekend against the Kansas City Mavericks. His goal was the lone highlight of a 6-1 loss to Kansas City on Friday, and he scored two of his team’s three goals the following night in a 10-3 loss.
BEN ZLOTY, 2018-23 (7 GP, 1-9-10) – Racked up four assists in a Norfolk Admirals road weekend, with an assist just 1:53 into a 6-1 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Friday. Two nights later, he had three assists in a 4-3 overtime victory at the Worcester Railers.
CAM HAUSINGER, 2017-19 (17 GP, 5-4-9) – Added to his haul with a goal on Friday in the very first Indy Fuel game at the Fishers Events Center, a 4-3 loss to the Iowa Heartlanders.
BOBBY RUSSELL, 2016-18 (19 GP, 1-6-7) – Opened the scoring for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Sunday in a 3-2 win at the Atlanta Gladiators.
OWEN PEDERSON, 2018-23 (11 GP, 2-4-6) – Notched his first goal in five weeks with the opening goal of a 4-3 Maine Mariners overtime win at the Worcester Railers.
EASTON ARMSTRONG, 2022-24 (19 GP, 1-5-6) – Earned the only Atlanta Gladiators goal in their 7-1 loss to the Savannah Ghost Pirates on Friday.
GRAHAM SWARD, 2022-24 (14 GP, 0-4-4) – Posted an assist for the Norfolk Admirals in Sunday’s 4-3 overtime victory at the Worcester Railers.
REECE HARSCH, 2019-20 (13 GP, 1-2-3) – Fired off a goal and an assist Wednesday in the Idaho Steelheads’ 6-4 win over the Tulsa Oilers.
Also on Wenatchee’s alumni list are the standouts from its Junior A era (2008-2023) – these players laid the foundation for the WHL’s future success in the Wenatchee Valley. These are Wenatchee’s Junior A alumni who are making news in American pro hockey this week:
NIC DOWD, 2008-09 (27 GP, 8-3-11) – Started the scoring with a second-period goal, and added an assist on an empty-netter in the final moments, of a 3-1 Washington Capitals win at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.
SAM MORTON, 2016-18/2019-20 (25 GP, 5-11-16) – Busted out of a seven-game scoreless streak for the Calgary Wranglers by scoring two goals and adding an assist in Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Tucson Roadrunners. His power play goal halfway through would prove to be the game-winner, and he posted a second power play goal to make it a two-goal game during the third period.
DREW BAVARO, 2019-20 (9 GP, 0-2-2) – Earned his first AHL point since October 19 by notching an assist on a power play goal with four seconds left in the second period of the Providence Bruins’ 3-2 win over the Utica Comets on Friday.
DEVIN COOLEY, 2016-17 (14-3-0, 1.80) – Rolled up two more wins for the Calgary Wranglers, with 29 saves in a 4-2 win Friday against the Tucson Roadrunners, and 30 saves on Tuesday in a 6-1 blowout of the Manitoba Moose.
CHARLIE COMBS, 2015-17 (22 GP, 8-10-18) – Added three goals to his total in a South Carolina Stingrays home series against the Rapid City Rush. His goal Friday ended a six-minute run with three Stingrays goals to open the game, and his two second-period goals highlighted an 8-1 sprint past the Rush on Sunday.
BRENDAN HARRIS, 2013-17 (11 GP, 5-6-11) – Opened the scoring for the Jacksonville IceMen Friday in a 4-2 win over the Florida Everblades, and tacked on an assist Wednesday in a 3-1 triumph over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
DAKOTA RAABE, 2014-17 (16 GP, 5-6-11) – Extended his point-scoring streak for the Iowa Heartlanders to four games, including a goal on Friday in a 4-3 win at the Indy Fuel – Raabe’s goal with two seconds left in the first period was the first in Fishers Events Center history. He added an assist the following night on the overtime winner in a 2-1 decision, and scored with a minute-and-a-half left Wednesday in a 2-0 school-day home victory against the Toledo Walleye.
TROY LOGGINS, 2013-14 (19 GP, 7-2-9) – Scored the first two Tahoe Knight Monsters goals Saturday in a 7-2 win at the Tulsa Oilers.
AVERY WINSLOW, 2018-19 (14 GP, 0-5-5) – Picked up an assist Sunday as the Orlando Solar Bears snuck past the Savannah Ghost Pirates 4-3 in overtime.
BLAKE CHRISTENSEN, 2015-16 (9 GP, 2-2-4) – Scored just 2:02 into the Tahoe Knight Monsters’ 5-3 win Sunday at the Tulsa Oilers.
SETH EISELE, 2017-18 (6-2-1, 2.00) – Made 29 saves to earn a 5-3 win for the South Carolina Stingrays Friday against the Rapid City Rush, but came up with only 23 saves Wednesday in a 4-3 loss at the Atlanta Gladiators.
MICHAEL BULLION, 2014-15 (4-7-0, 3.69) – Stopped 32 shots Saturday in a 4-3 Worcester Railers loss to the Maine Mariners, and made 28 stops Wednesday in a 5-2 defeat against the Reading Royals.
