“WHERE ARE THEY NOW?” – ZACH FRYE
When defenseman Zach Frye from Spokane, WA wanted to try his hand at the junior level of hockey, he didn’t have to travel far as he joined the Missoula Maulers of the NPHL just three hours to the east along I-90. He put together a solid season for the Maulers in the 2009-10 campaign, and Head Coach Marcus Baxter helped guide him to Wenatchee where his father Paul Baxter was in his third season as Head Coach.
The middle of the 2010-11 season was tumultuous in Wenatchee, with a flurry of player movement and a head coaching change. Frye was dealt to the Lincoln Stars where he not only finished the season but played another three seasons, earning a Division I college scholarship on the way.
His college career was spent at Alaska-Fairbanks where played 136 games, and wore an “A” on his sweater as an alternate captain in both his junior and senior years.
At the conclusion of his college playing days, he was called up to join the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Last season, he split time with the Barracuda and the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears.
