WHERE ARE THEY NOW? – Evan Schmidbauer
In his time with the Wenatchee Wild, which spanned three seasons, Evan Schmidbauer appeared in 153 regular season games.
Only 8 other players have more games played in team history. Had the Wild not relocated to the Rio Grande Valley, he would have easily broken the record of 191 (Brendan Harris), as he played in 57 games his final season.
After juniors, Schmidbauer who is from Surrey, BC attended Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, played 5 seasons and held the position of team captain for the final three seasons. He majored in Psychology and got his Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis. He says, “After I graduated, I was approached by an agency asking if I was interested in playing overseas. I told him I was very Interested. Before I even signed with the agency, I had 2 offers to play in Sweden so I did. After a year in Sweden, I went to play in France.”
Now in his first full year out of hockey, he remains in Newport, RI working in property management and real estate. He fondly recalls his experience in Washington. “My time in Wenatchee was one of the best experiences I could have asked for. I still stay in contact with teammates, friends, billets, coaches, and even teachers from Wenatchee! Although it’s been a long time, I see myself visiting the valley in the near future.”
