“WHERE ARE THEY NOW?” – NATHAN IANNONE
It’s a relatively desolate area in the Yukon Territory in western Canada, accessible only by a small plane ride followed by a 45-minute helicopter jaunt. That’s where you’re likely to find Wenatchee Wild alum Nathan Iannone.
Iannone, a native of Penticton, British Columbia won a BCHL Championship in his first season in Wenatchee, and only missed two games in his two full seasons with the Wild. He was voted “Fan Favorite” at the end of the 2017-18 regular season. His time with the Wild capped off a junior career that began with a few games with his hometown Penticton Vees at the end of the 2015-16 season. He played the following year in Salmon Arm before being acquired by Wenatchee via trade.
After aging out of junior hockey, Iannone went to work in the field of “diamond drilling” where he goes on the job site for spans of 4 to 6 weeks and works 12 hours a day with no days off the entire stay. The job has taken him to a multitude of locations across the Yukon and British Columbia as well. The purpose of the drilling is to explore and identify potential mine sites that would mine primarily for gold, silver, copper, and lead. The grueling shift is met on the back end with a two week respite before loading up and heading back in.
