A proud second-year member of the Western Hockey League, the Wenatchee Wild are continuing a celebrated WHL legacy that dates back to Edmonton, Alberta in 1996, continuing in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba. These are the ICE alumni, who are now also members of the #WildFamily, making news in American pro hockey this week:
NHL
ZACH BENSON, 2020-23 (32 GP, 6-6-12) – Returned from Christmas by tipping in a shot halfway through the first period to start the scoring in the Buffalo Sabres’ 6-2 win against Chicago on Friday.
PEYTON KREBS, 2016-21 (37 GP, 4-7-11) – Got the scoring started even earlier in the Buffalo Sabres’ next game with a tip-in of his own, scoring less than seven minutes into a 4-2 win at St. Louis on Sunday.
BRAYDEN McNABB, 2006-11 (37 GP, 2-4-6) – Had quite the memorable shift on the penalty kill Friday in the Vegas Golden Knights’ 6-3 win at the San Jose Sharks – at 1:03 of the third period, McNabb’s wrist shot tied the game, before his secondary assist 23 seconds later helped set up Jack Eichel’s game-winner.
AHL
MATTHEW SAVOIE, 2019-24 (27 GP, 8-13-21) – Ended his 2024 on a tear, with a goal and an assist Friday in the Bakersfield Condors’ 4-3 home loss against the Coachella Valley Firebirds, and three assists the following night in a come-from-behind 5-3 win at the San Diego Gulls.
NOAH PHILP, 2015-17 (24 GP, 7-7-14) – Notched an assist Friday in a 4-3 Bakersfield Condors loss against the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
CALE FLEURY, 2014-18 (18 GP, 5-9-14) – Posted a power play assist in the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ 6-4 victory last Thursday against the Texas Stars, in a game where the teams combined to score five power play goals.
LUKE PHILP, 2015-17 (24 GP, 3-9-12) – Posted a third-period assist Saturday in the Hershey Bears’ 3-2 overtime win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
CARSON LAMBOS, 2021-22 (27 GP, 2-3-5) – Gave the Iowa Wild a third-period highlight with a goal in Saturday’s 4-2 home loss to the Rockford IceHogs. That was followed by a possible career milestone in the not-too-distant future, with a recall to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday as Kirill Kaprizov was placed on injured reserve by the NHL club. He joined the club in Washington, D.C. Thursday ahead of Minnesota’s game against the Capitals, but was not slated to make his NHL debut.
JACK FINLEY, 2021-22 (5 GP, 2-2-4) – Has yet to play in front of the Syracuse Crunch faithful this season, but has made the most of his road outings – his goal Friday capped a 4-1 win at the Laval Rocket, followed by an assist the next night in a 5-2 victory. His third-period goal iced a 2-0 New Year’s Day victory at the Toronto Marlies.
ECHL
BRILEY WOOD, 2022-24 (28 GP, 9-12-21) – Started the scoring Saturday in the Utah Grizzlies’ 5-3 home win against the Rapid City Rush.
BRETT DAVIS, 2016-19 (28 GP, 10-11-21) – Scored points in his final three games of 2024 for the Rapid City Rush, starting with a goal in the second period of Friday’s 6-3 win at the Utah Grizzlies. He posted an assist the following night in a 5-3 loss in Utah, and capped the calendar year with the final goal in Rapid City’s 5-2 New Year’s Eve win against the Tulsa Oilers.
CAM HAUSINGER, 2017-19 (23 GP, 11-6-17) – Played four games in five days to end the old year, and scored a point in all of them -his goal doubled an early Indy Fuel lead Friday in a 4-2 loss to the Fort Wayne Komets, before assisting on one with 20 seconds left the following night in a 4-1 loss to the Toledo Walleye. His goal on Sunday tied the game halfway through the third period in a 3-2 road loss to Fort Wayne, and his goal Tuesday helped the Fuel to a 3-2 win at the Kalamazoo Wings.
BEN ZLOTY, 2018-23 (12 GP, 2-14-16) – Entered the holiday break on a four-game point streak thanks to two assists Friday and a first-period goal Saturday in a pair of Norfolk Admirals home losses to the Trois-Rivieres Lions.
EASTON ARMSTRONG, 2022-24 (27 GP, 4-9-13) – Finished 2024 with two multi-point games in three for the Atlanta Gladiators, with a goal and an assist Friday in a 6-5 overtime win against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. He had a hand in every Atlanta goal two days later, as the Gladiators took a 6-3 loss to the Norfolk Admirals.
BOBBY RUSSELL, 2016-18 (27 GP, 2-8-10) – Bookended his New Year’s week with points for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, starting with a goal to start a third-period comeback in a 6-5 overtime loss at Atlanta on Friday. His assist Tuesday came before a decisive scoring sprint from Norfolk in an 8-3 loss to the Admirals.
OWEN PEDERSON, 2018-23 (13 GP, 4-4-8) – Ended the run to the holiday break with two goals Sunday in an 8-5 Maine Mariners win at the Worcester Railers. His second goal early in the third period stood up as the game-winner.
NOLAN ORZECK, 2017-22 (21 GP, 2-5-7) – Closed out 2024 with an assist Saturday in the Allen Americans’ 4-2 loss to the Kansas City Mavericks, followed by a game-tying goal in the second period of Tuesday’s 6-2 home loss against the Idaho Steelheads.
JON MARTIN, 2011-16 (8 GP, 0-3-3) – Picked up his last assist of the calendar year Saturday in a 3-2 Kalamazoo Wings win at the Bloomington Bison.
Also on Wenatchee’s alumni list are the standouts from its Junior A era (2008-2023) – these players laid the foundation for the WHL’s future success in the Wenatchee Valley. These are Wenatchee’s Junior A alumni who are making news in American pro hockey this week:
NIC DOWD, 2008-09 (37 GP, 10-4-14) – Awoke from a three-week scoring slumber for the Washington Capitals after Christmas, with goals in back-to-back road games – his goal halfway through Friday’s 5-2 win at Toronto was the eventual winner, followed by a mid-third-period goal Sunday in a 4-2 loss at the Detroit Red Wings.
DEVIN COOLEY, 2016-17 (15-5-0, 1.89) – Split a pair of home decisions for the Calgary Wranglers going to the holidays, making 27 saves Friday in a 5-3 win against the Henderson Silver Knights, but taking the loss Sunday in a 3-0 shutout loss despite stopping 35 Silver Knights chances.
KYLE MAYHEW, 2016-17 (28 GP, 4-22-26) – Notched the eventual game-winner in the third period of Friday’s 4-2 Fort Wayne Komets win over the Indy Fuel, before picking up a third-period assist the next night in a 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones.
BRENDAN HARRIS, 2013-17 (18 GP, 9-9-18) – Returned from Christmas and scored two goals Friday in a 7-6 Jacksonville IceMen win against the South Carolina Stingrays.
TROY LOGGINS, 2013-14 (28 GP, 11-5-16) – Had a goal and an assist Friday in the Tahoe Knight Monsters’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Tulsa Oilers, and an assist the following night on the eventual winner in a 5-3 victory over the Oilers.
DAKOTA RAABE, 2014-17 (23 GP, 8-6-14) – Provided the lone highlight with a goal in the Iowa Heartlanders’ 3-1 loss Sunday at the Wheeling Nailers.
MARKO REIFENBERGER, 2018-19 (26 GP, 5-7-12) – Posted his final assist of 2024 with 62 seconds left in the Norfolk Admirals’ 6-3 win Sunday at the Atlanta Gladiators.
BRYAN YOON, 2015-16 (15 GP, 4-8-12) – Wrapped up 2024 with a two-point game for the Utah Grizzlies, notching a pair of assists Saturday in a 5-3 win against the Rapid City Rush.
AVERY WINSLOW, 2018-19 (23 GP, 0-7-7) – Had an assist Friday for the Orlando Solar Bears in a 2-1 loss at the Florida Everblades.
STANISLAV DEMIN, 2016-18 (11 GP, 0-3-3) – Earned his first point since November 8 with an assist in the Idaho Steelheads’ 3-2 overtime loss at Wichita on Friday night.
SETH EISELE, 2017-18 (8-5-1, 2.70) – Won one of three decisions for the South Carolina Stingrays to end the calendar year, starting with a 23-save loss in a 7-6 decision Friday at the Jacksonville IceMen. He stopped 21 shots Saturday in a 5-1 home loss to the Savannah Ghost Pirates, but stopped 26 of 29 shots Tuesday as South Carolina overwhelmed Savannah for an 11-3 win.
MICHAEL BULLION, 2014-15 (5-10-1, 3.93) – Picked up three decisions out of the holiday break for the Worcester Railers, starting with a hard-luck 29-save loss Friday in a 2-1 game at the Reading Royals. He made 15 saves Sunday in a 7-3 loss against the Adirondack Thunder, but pulled out a 17-save victory Tuesday in a 6-5 home win against the Thunder. He briefly signed a professional tryout agreement with the Bridgeport Islanders, but was returned to Worcester Sunday morning.
