TIGERS WIN BIG IN PRINCE GEORGE
The Tigers started their long BC road trip off with a big win in Prince George. Despite being outshot by the Cougars, the Tigers offence fired on all cylinders as they won the game 6-1.
Markus Eisenschmid has really been finding his stride with the Tigers as of lately. He opened the scoring with his fourth of the season at 5:39 of the first. Hunter Shinkaruk and Curtis Valk picked up the assists on the goal. Recently acquired Todd Fiddler tied the game for the Cougars with his first goal in front of the PG crowd. He scored his fifth of the season on a breakaway to even up the score. Miles Koules would retake the lead for the Tigers before the period was over. Koules went five hole with a quick wrister for his fifth of the season. Jacob Doty and Tommy Vannelli made the goal possible with some nice passing.
The Cougars outshot the Tigers 16-7 in the second period but were unable to beat Daniel Wapple. The Tigers offence cooled off for a period before they broke out in the third.
The Tigers put up four consecutive goals in the final frame to put the game out of reach. Matt Staples opened the scoring with his first of the season. He wristed home a goal top corner off a nice feed from behind the net. Chad Butcher and Gavin Broadhead were the playmakers. Cole Sanford made it a 4-1 when he put home a rebound off Trevor Cox’s initial shot. Ty Stanton picked up the other assist on the goal. Cox picked up another assist when he found Steven Owre in front of the net. Owre’s goal was his seventh of the season and extended his point streak to nine games. Sanford added to his game totals with the other assist. Miles Koules made it a 6-1 game with his second of the game. The goal came shorthanded in the final minutes of the game from Matt Staples.
Daniel Wapple got the call in net for the third straight game and he didn’t disappoint. He played fantastic and allowed only a single goal against on 40 shots. Brett Zarowny was in net for the Cougars. He allowed six goals against on 39 shots in the loss.
The Tigers went 0 for 3 on the power play and were able to kill off all three of the Cougars’ power play opportunities.
