SHINKARUK TALLIES TWO POINTS IN CANADIAN WIN
Lake Placid, NY – Medicine Hat Tigers captain Hunter Shinkaruk scored and set up another to help pace Canada to a 5-3 victory over Finland in national junior team exhibition action on Wednesday in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice also scored while Frederik Gauthier, Felix Girard and Brendan Gaunce also scored in the win. Ryan Pulock of the Brandon Wheat Kings drew an assist on Reinhart’s marker.
Goaltender Eric Comrie of the Tri-City Americans turned in a strong 37-save effort to backstop Canada to the victory, including making 17 saves on 18 shots in the third period.
The victory improves Canada to 1-0 in exhibition action. The Canadian roster is comprised of players eligible to play for Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in December and January. Hockey Canada is using the three-game exhibition schedule to evaluate potential players for the National Junior team.
38 players were invited to Hockey Canada’s national junior team summer development camp, including 14 players from the Western Hockey League.
Canada resumes exhibition play on Thursday versus Sweden.
