Tigers stumble against Broncos
Swift Current, SK – A wild affair in Swift Current would see the Medicine Hat Tigers drop an 8-4 decision to the Broncos Friday night.
The Tigers would open the scoring at 3:28 as Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would snap his 22nd of the season past Reid Dyck to give the visitors the lead from Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB).
Swift Current would eventually respond first with a failed penalty shot attempt by Dawson Gerwing being stymied by Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB). But on a penalty shortly after as Luke Mistelbacher would fire his 20th of the season to tie the game at 1-1. A source of bad luck would follow 45 seconds later, Tyson Galloway would get the puck past Zahara that just would roll over the goal-line to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead. Late in the first Owen Pickering would finish a transition play for the Broncos to put them up 3-1 with just 31 seconds left in the period. Carrying the lead into the 2nd.
Into the second period, the Broncos would continue to add to their lead at 2:41 as Brady Birnie would be opportune in making it 4-1 Broncos. That would spell the end of the night for Zach Zahara and Ethan McCallum (Brandon, MB) would come in relief. The Tigers would respond at 10:15 as Mrsic would get his second of the night from Basha to cut the Swift Current lead to 4-2. Moving ahead to another powerplay for the Broncos as a jam play would see Rylan Gould would make pay dirt just sneaking the puck past McCallum to make it 5-2 Broncos after 40 at 12:11.
Into the third period with bad blood spilling over between the two rivals as the Broncos would add to their lead Clarke Caswell would make it 6-2 at 7:52 followed by Ty Coupland on a Swift Current power play at 11:24. Just 36 second later, Kadon McCann (Cochrane, AB) would slide in his 9th of the season from Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB). But Swift Current would get a shorthanded tally from McCleary at 16:01 to make it 8-3 Broncos. Tigers defenceman Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) would get his 6th of the year going to the net on the same power play just 21 seconds later ending the scoring in the game but the Tigers would drop their 4th straight game in a row.
