Tigers rally for 5-3 win over Warriors

For the second straight game against the Warriors, the Tigers would open the scoring as Hunter St.Martin (Edmonton, AB) would break-in beating Warriors starter Evan May at 4:10. Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would draw assists on St.Martin’s 19th of the year.
The Warriors would tie the game just 1:59 later on a Moose Jaw power play as Brayden Yager would beat goaltender Ethan McCallum (Brandon, MB) at 6:09. But the Tigers would have the lead once more and keep it to the 2nd period as Vasyl Spilka (Liberec, CZE) would one-time home his 5th of the season from Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) & Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) at 16:17.
Off the second period where the Warriors would be the only benefactors in the middle stanza as Jagger Firkus would pick up a rebound in tight tying the game at 2-2 at 12:19. Then 1:35 later Brayden Schuurman would steal the puck at the Warrior blue-line and breaking scoring his 13th of the season to give the Warriors a one goal lead heading to the third period.
In the third period the Tigers were able to score three unanswered goals starting with Gavin McKenna re-directing a shot off Matthew Savoie’s stick for his 21st of the season to tie the game at 3-3 at 12:09. St. Martin and Matt Paranych (Edmonton, AB) coming away with points on the game tying goal. The Tigers would make paydirt on their third power play of the night at 14:12 as Tomas Mrsic would one-time his 13th of the season past Evan May with McKenna & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) adding helpers. Then it would be Oasiz Wiesblatt throwing a puck on goal and the ricochet would be off Denton Mateychuk’s skate in to make it 5-3 Medicine Hat at 17:09.
Despite the extra attacker, the Tigers would soldier on for the 5-3 win and get a split in wins in the season series against the Warriors.
With the win the Tigers stay atop the Central Division standings at 29-14-3-1 while the Warriors now sit at 28-16-0-2.
Medicine Hat will hit the road for a pair of games in Northern Saskatchewan starting in Saskatoon on Friday, February 2 at Sasktel Centre.
The next Tigers home game will be February 6 against the Regina Pats.
