TIGERS BATTLE OIL KINGS

The Tigers played host to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night at Co-op Place. It was the fifth of eight meetings this season between these two Central Division opponents. The home team has won all four match-ups so far this season.

Beckett Langkow got the start for the Tigers and was sharp early on, stopping the Oil Kings and weathering the storm. Dru Krubs kicked off the scoring just over 10 minutes into the period as he drove to the front of the net, put and tipped home the puck passed Oil Kings netminder Kolby Hay to give Tigers the 1-0 lead and the Washington Capitals Draft Pick his third of the season. Oren Shtrom and Noah Danielson had the assists on the play.

The Tigers and Oil Kings would trade penalties setting up some 4 on 4 action. Carter Souch would take advantage of the extra ice, answering for the Oil Kings as the overage forward cut across the Tigers zone and ripped a shot passed Langkow. Justin Sourdif was credited with the lone assist.

Beckett Langkow stopped 15 of the 16 shots sent his direction in the opening frame.

Steven Arp would net his 2nd of the season as he played Johnny on the spot picking up the loose puck on the Rhett Parsons deflection and beating Hay clean to restore the Tabbies one goal lead.

Dru Krebs got his second of the night as he kept the puck, drove to the net and went short side on Hay beating him with the backhand shot. Brendan Lee and Gleb Ivanov get credit for the assists.

The Oil Kings would answer back only 20 seconds later when Luke Prokop picks up the loose puck in the slot and beat Beckett Langkow for his 10th goal of the season. Kaiden Guhle and Jalen Luypen with the assists.

Edmonton would pull to within one with 2:22 to go in the frame when Cole Miller put home his second attempt after picking up the John Szabo rebound.

The Oil Kings kept the pressure on late in the period, when Josh Williams found a bit of open ice and blasted home a laser of a shot on the feed from Jalen Luypen to give Edmonton a one goal lead after 40 minutes of play.

Jake Neighbours kept the momentum going for the Oil Kings as he got sprung in alone and beat Beckett Langkow five hole to give the Oil Kings the 5-3 lead. That was Neighbours 13th of the season. Dylan Guenther gets credit for the assist.

That would be all the offence the third period would bring as the Tigers fall to the Oil Kings by a score of 5-3.

The Tigers next action comes on Wednesday when the Brandon Wheat Kings are in town.
