Tigers acquire defenceman Jonas Woo from Wentachee
Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers made a trade at the conclusion of round 1 in 2024 WHL Prospects Draft this morning.
The trade completed involves the Tigers & the Wenatchee Wild. Medicine Hat sends 2005 born defenceman Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) & a 3rd round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft in exchange for 2006 born defenceman Jonas Woo (Winnipeg, MB).
Woo, 18, Suited up in all 68 games last season with the Wild, recording eight goals & 26 assists while playing in six WHL playoff games.
Jonas will be entering his third full WHL season after also spending time with the former Winnipeg ICE franchise where he’s won an Eastern Conference Championship in 2023, while now playing in 41 WHL post-season games.
Tigers Head Coach & General Manager Willie Desjardins says he’s looking forward to seeing Woo hone his craft with the Tigers.
“We’re really excited to add Jonas to our hockey club,” he says. “Jonas shows offensive prowess, he’s competitive while also being a strong defender, with his experience in long playoff runs from his time with the ICE and Wentachee last season, he’ll bring plenty of experience to make us successful.”
As part of the deal, the Tigers sent former Reid Andresen to Wentachee, Andresen played in 210 games with the Tigers scoring 20 goals & 66 assists in that time. Andresen also played in nine WHL playoff games the past two seasons.
Desjardins says he thanks Reid for all of his contributions to the Tigers and wishes him well in Wenatchee.
“We want to thank Andy (Andresen) for all the time he’s put in with our team the past three full seasons,” he says. “Reid was a huge contributor to our defensive core and we wish him all the best in Wenatchee.”
The Tigers will continue draft day with the 16th overall pick. The Draft kicks off at 10 AM / MT.
