HITMEN DOUBLE UP TIGERS 4-2
The Tigers finished off their weekend with a trip to Calgary to take on the Hitmen. The two teams have become very familiar with each other having played three games in the last six days. In the previous two games the home team came away with the win, but the Tigers were looking to buck that trend on Sunday afternoon.
The Hitmen opened the scoring midway through the first period off a nice tic tac toe passing play. Adam Kydd found Riley Fiddler-Schultz alone in front of the net for an easy tap in goal for his 15th of the campaign. The Tigers would strike back almost immediately. Tyler MacKenzie found Oren Shtrom on the left side of the net with a cross ice pass that Shtrom ripped home for his seventh of the season. Andrew Basha also picked up an assist on the equalizer. The Tigers took advantage of the momentum shift and put another goal on the board less than a minute later to take the lead. Battling in the crease Oasiz Wiesblatt jammed home the loose puck for his fourth of the year. Cru Hanas and Dru Krebs picked up the helpers on the goal. Hanas’ assist was his first ever WHL point. Calgary would even up the game before the first intermission. Anton Astashevich sent Riley Fiddler-Schultz off on a break away with a nice feed. Fiddler-Schultz went top corner with a wrister for his second of the period.
Calgary would retake the lead midway through the second frame. Adam Kydd skated in from the blue line and let a wrister go from the faceoff dot. It found the top corner on the blocker side to put the Hitmen up 3-2.
The Hitmen would give themselves a two goal cushion 7:34 into the third period. Blake Allan batted home the rebound off of Jackson van de Leest’s point shot for his fourth of the season. The Tigers fought hard until the end but weren’t able to light the lamp and the game ended in a 4-2 Hitmen victory.
Garin Bjorklund (4-14-2-0) was between the pipes for the Tigers. He had a busy night making 34 saves.
