TIGERS CLAW BACK TO FORCE OVERTIME
The Medicine Hat Tigers rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime only to fall 4-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Mark Rassell scored his 100th Career WHL Goal to tie the game up with 38 seconds left on the clock. He is the 31st Tiger in franchise history to record 100 goals.
Ryan Chyzowski scored at the end of the game but after a review of the play, it was determined the buzzer had gone off before the goal so the game went to overtime.
Affiliate player Kaeden Lane earned his first career WHL start tonight and he made 10 saves on 14 shots faced tonight.
Wheat King’s Cole Reinhardt scored the winning goal for the visitors.
Wheat Kings’ Stelio Mattheos scored midway through the first period to give the visitors the lead.
Ryan Jevne responed for the Tabbies scoring a beautiful wrist shoot that beat Wheat Kings’ netminder Dylan Myskiw far side top shelf on the power play. His 17th goal of the season was set up by Rassell and David Quenneville.
Tigers outshot the Wheat Kings 12 -3 in the middle frame but were unable to solve Myskiw. Both teams headed to the dressing room in a 1-1 stalemate after 40 minutes of play.
Wheat King’s Reinhardt and Evan Weigner scored in the third period to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.
With less than five minutes left in regulation, Cole Clayton and James Hamblin combined to set up Quenneville to score his 26th goal of the season and cut the visitor’s lead to 1 before Rassell scored the game tying goal.
Myskiw turned aside 31 of the Tabbies’ 34 shots tonight.
The Tigers are now 31-24-8-0 and will travel to Edmonton to play the Oil Kings at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 27th as part of Hockey Hookey Day.
