This Week in Silvertips Hockey

The Everett Silvertips finished the week strong with a 4-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday night. Overall the Silvertips ended the week by earning 5 of a possible 8 points. The Silvertips are currently in 2nd place in the U.S. Division with a record of 26-22-7-2 (61 points).

WHO’S HOT

Alex Leavitt (12 goals, 32 assists) leads the Silvertips with 44 points. Torrie Wheat (20 goals, 23 assists) is second on the hockey club in scoring with 43 points. Wheat also leads the club with 20 goals and is tied for 7th in the WHL with 12 power play goals. Leavitt leads the Silvertips with 32 assists. Shaun Heshka (7 goals, 22 assists) leads all Silvertips defenseman in scoring with 29 points. Silvertips rookie forward Brady Calla leads the Silvertips with a +8 rating. In goal Michael Wall is currently 5th in the WHL in Goals Against Average (2.01), 2nd in Save Percentage (.927), tied for 1st in Shutouts (9) and 11th in wins (19). Rookie netminder Leland Irving also has posted some very good numbers this season. Currently Irving has a record of 7-7-1 a Goals Against Average of 1.78 and a Save Percentage of .928. Irving also has recorded 2 shutouts this season.

IT’S HAMILL TIME

Silvertips rookie forward Zach Hamill (8 goals, 21 assists) is currently 7th among WHL rookies in scoring with 29 points. Hamill also has the most points among all 16 year olds this season.

WHEAT AND LOVE APPROACHING 100 POINT MARK

Silvertips forward Torrie Wheat is 3 points away from reaching the 100 point plateau in his WHL career. In his career Wheat has tallied a total of 42 goals and 55 assists for 97 points. Defenseman Mitch Love is 6 points away from the 100 point mark. Love in his WHL career has posted 32 goals and 62 assist for 94 points.

SILVERTIPS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Silvertips defenseman Ivan Baranka had a strong week by adding 2 goals and 1 assist but more importantly playing strong defensively throughout the week. Both Michael Wall and Leland Irving were very solid between the pipes last week. Wall went 0-1-1 this week but was fantastic by making 74 saves on 77 shots in two games. Leland Irving went 2-0 last week including a shutout over the defending Memorial Cup Champions, Kelowna Rockets. Irving finished the week with a 1.00 Goals Against Average and a Save Percentage of .941.

SWEET 16

In Sunday’s night 4-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs, the Silvertips had all eight 16 year old rookies in the line up. That is the most 16 year olds dressed by the Silvertips this season and in all of the WHL. All eight 16 year olds, Zach Hamill, Brady Calla, Taylor Ellington, Leland Irving, Graham Potuer, Zach Sim, Jonathan Harty and Brennan Zasitko all were drafted by the Silvertips in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft.

SILVERTIPS SPECIAL TEAMS

The Silvertips are currently 6th in the WHL on the power play (56 for 300, 18.7%) and 1st in the WHL on the penalty kill (193 for 220, 87.7%).
