Everett Brings Home the Win
The Everett Silvertips defeated the Spokane Chiefs by a score of 4-2 at the Everett Events Center on Sunday night. This is the ninth of ten meetings between the two clubs with Everett leading the series 6-2-1. The Silvertips rise to 26-22-7-2 and 61 points. The Chiefs fall to 20-26-8-2 and 50 points. Everett is still locked into the second place spot in the US Division while Spokane is in fourth. The final meeting between these two clubs will be on March 9th at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, WA.
Everett quickly racked up a three goal lead in the second period after a scoreless first. At 10:10 of the second both Gary Gladue and Jevon Desautels went into the penalty box, one for tripping and one for a slashing major. Eighteen seconds later Everett began their run. At 10:28 Torrie Wheat buried his 20th goal of the year. About 35 seconds later Mitch Love earned his 8th goal of the year while Curtis Billsten got his 11th goal of the season two and a half minutes later. The three goals were scored in a time span of 3 minutes and 18 seconds.
Two minutes into the third Everett extended their lead to 4-0 when Ivan Baranka sent one into the net, thereby earning his 7th goal on the season. Spokane got on the board at 5:37 of the last period when Kyle Howarth slipped one by Leland Irving, with help from Gary Gladue. The Chiefs struck one more time, at the 13 minute mark, when Gladue got Spokane as close as they would come, with a goal to make the score 4-2. Danny Lapointe tallied the assist on Spokane’s last goal.
Earning assists for the Silvertips in the game were Shaun Heshka and Zach Hamill with two while Torrie Wheat, Alex Leavitt and Ivan Baranka all received one a piece. In net for Everett was Leland Irving. Irving played solid and stopped 16 of 18 shots. He improves his record to 7-7-1. Jim Watt, in goal for Spokane, made 30 saves on 34 shots and drops his record to 17-22-4. Kevin Opsahl made a brief appearance for about seven minutes in the second and made two saves on two shots. On the power play Everett went 4 for 6 while Spokane went 0 for 4. The Silvertips doubled up the Chiefs in shots on goal with Everett out shooting Spokane 36-18.
The Silvertips are back at home on Friday, February 18th, when they face off against the Prince George Cougars. The action starts at 7:05pm.
