The Silvertips Fall to the Americans 2-1
February 11, 2005: Tonight at the Everett Events Center Marcus Jonasen of the Tri-City Americans scored a late power play goal to lead the Americans to a 2-1 win over the Everett Silvertips. This is the sixth meeting of ten between the two teams with Everett leading the series 3-2-1. The Americans improve their record to 20-25-5-3 while Everett ends their four game winning streak and falls to 25-22-6-2. The Silvertips are in second in the US Division with 58 points while the Americans are tied for 4th with 48 points.
The Silvertips would sound off first when rookie Zach Sim sent one into the net at 3:35 of the first period on a power play. That was Sim’s first Western Hockey League goal. The assists went to Assistant Captain’s Torrie Wheat and Shaun Heshka. Tri-Cities answered eleven minutes later with a goal from Clayton Stoner. Kirk Meaver and Andy Thompson tallied the assists.
The Tri-City Americans would score the game winner on a power play at 17:57 of the third period after Mitch Love went in the box for charging. Marcus Jonasen recorded the game winner while Dylan Stanley and Clayton Stoner received the assists.
In the net for the Silvertips was veteran Mike Wall. Wall made an amazing 42 saves on 44 shots. Despite his effort, his record falls to 19-17-5. For Tri-Cities, Carey Price secured the win with 26 saves on 27 shots. His record rises to 18-24-5. On the power play Everett went 1 for 7 while Tri-Cities went 1 for 4. At the end of the game the Americans out shot the Silvertips 44-27.
The Silvertips are back in action tomorrow night at the Key Arena where they will face off against their division rivals, the Seattle Thunderbirds. Then on Sunday, February 13, the Silvertips will host the Spokane Chiefs at home at the Everett Events Center. Saturday’s game is set for 7:05pm while Sunday’s game time is set for 5:05pm.
