Wall Earns 10th Shutout on Year

Mike Wall earned his 10th shutout of the year tonight when the Everett Silvertips defeated the Red Deer Rebels 3-0. This is the only meeting between the two teams this year. Last year Everett traveled to Red Deer and lost so this evens up the series 1-1 for all time. Everett is on a three game winning streak and they now have 65 points. They stay locked up in second in the US Division with a record of 28-22-7-2. Red Deer falls to 31-22-4-4 and they lose a spot in the Central Division to end up in the number four spot with 70 points.

It was all Everett during tonight’s game. Rookie Brady Calla tallied two goals, one in the first and one in the third. His first period goal was an unassisted, power play goal at 13:59. On his second goal of the night halfway through the third period, he made his way around two Red Deer defenders to backhand the shot behind the Rebels’ goaltender. This is Calla’s 7th and 8th goal on the year and he leads the Silvertips in the plus/minus category with a +9 rating. Kyle Annesley recorded the assist on Calla’s second goal. Shaun Heshka earned his 10th goal of the season and finished it up for Everett when he scored an unassisted, empty-netter at 19:42.

Mike Wall, standing like a brick wall in the net for the Silvertips, made saves on all 29 shots the Red Deer Rebels sent at him. This moves him up to 10 shutouts for the year and puts him in first place in the WHL for the most shutouts. Wall lifts his record to 21-17-6. In between the pipes for Red Deer was Andrew Leslie. Leslie stopped 27 of 29 shots and falls to 10-8-2.

The Silvertips travel to Kamloops on Tuesday, February 22nd, to face off against the Kamloops Blazers. Game time is set for 7pm.
