Silvertips Take Forward Tyson Jost 7th Overall
EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips used their first-round choice in this morning’s 2013 WHL Bantam Draft to select forward Tyson Jost of Leduc, Alberta. A 5-9, 169-pound right winger, Jost spent this past season at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia. He recorded 77 goals and 79 assists for a total of 156 points in 49 games played; good for an average of 3.18 points per game. He also totaled 71 minutes in penalties during the 2012-2013 season.
In six games during the St. Albert (Alberta) AAA Bantam tournament, Jost recorded 10 goals and 14 total points. Even more recently, he went on to rack up five goals and 12 points in only five games at the Alberta Cup Provincial tournament.
“Tyson a very competitive player who doesn’t lose many puck battles,” Silvertips Head Scout Bil La Forge said. “He has excellent ability with and without the puck, and his greatest strength is his hockey sense. When Tyson has the puck, he has the ability both to finish plays himself and to find his teammates.”
“He’s a player we identified early on,” La Forge added. “We were pleasantly surprised to get him with the seventh pick and couldn’t be happier to have him in our organization.”
Players eligible for the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft are 1998-born players who reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The order of selection for the first round of the draft is determined through a weighted lottery consisting of the six non-playoff teams. The draft order is based on the inverse overall standings from the regular season.
