Royals Fall at Home Against Penticton
Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals returned to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre tonight to open a weekend double-header against the Penticton Vees. After taking the lead early in the first, the Vees defeated the Royals with a final score of 6-3.
Penticton struck first with a power play goal from Jacob Kvasnicka at 4:34 of the opening frame. A power play goal from Cameron Norrie gave the Vees a two-goal lead just past the midway mark of the period, but the Royals got on the board at 12:12 with a goal from Hayden Moore, assisted by Roan Woodward and Caleb Matthews. The Vees would get another goal from Jacob Kvasnicka to close the first period and bring the score to 3-1 Vees headed into the first intermission.
The Vees opened the second period with goals from Ryden Evers and Tristan Peterson to take a four-goal lead in the first few minutes of the frame. Chase Valliant extended the lead further at 3:43 of the frame, and the Royals trailed 6-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Caleb Matthews scored a power play goal at 8:34 of the third period, assisted by Nolan Stewart and Miles Cooper, to bring the score to 6-2 Vees. A final-minute goal from Ludovic Perreault, assisted by Roan Woodward and Hayden Moore, brought the final score to 6-3. After stepping between the pipes in the second frame, goaltender Jake Pilon held the Vees off for the remainder of the game, saving 18/18 shots in his first appearance as a Royal.
