Veteran sniper leads Victoria to four wins with 12 points.

Victoria, BC – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Victoria Royals’ forward Alex Gogolev has been named the CHL Player of the Week.
Gogolev, a 20-year-old Moscow native, recorded 12 points (3g-9a) over the Royals’ four games last week to go along with four penalty minutes and a plus-two rating on his way to the honour. Gogolev becomes the first player in Victoria Royals team history to receive the CHL Player of the Week award. Most recently, Gogolev recorded four points (1g-3a) in the Royals’ 5-4 win against the Kamloops Blazers on January 19th. The WHL also announced Gogolev as the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week yesterday.
The Russian forward is currently enjoying the most productive month of his WHL career and has notched 19 points (3g-16a) through nine January games so far. His team-leading 55 points (16g-39a) in 42 games played place Gogolev 15th overall in WHL scoring.
Drafted by the Calgary Hitmen in the second round, 63rd overall, of the 2011 CHL Import Draft, the Royals acquired the left winger last September in a trade that sent forward Zane Jones to Calgary. Gogolev sits just two points shy of the 57 points (25g-32a) he posted last season with the Hitmen.
Alex Gogolev and the Royals welcome the Vancouver Giants to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a home doubleheader on Friday, January 25th and Saturday, January 26th. Puck drop for both games is set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s game also marks the Royals’ annual “Pink in the Rink” game in support of the BC Cancer Foundation!
