Team Matchups
Penticton has started the season off strong with a (7-4-1-1) record, and are in the running with the Royals and Cougars for the B.C. Division lead. The Royals have met the Vees twice this season, coming away with two wins including a 5-0 victory in the home opener. Victoria will look to continue their winning ways against Penticton in back-to-back battles this weekend.
Players to Watch
Victoria
Ethan Eskit – The Royals’ crease has been safe and sound in the hands of Eskit this season. Eskit, hailing Calgary, Alberta, has maintained a shining .910 save percentage and has played more minutes and made more saves than any other netminder in the WHL. After being acquired in an offseason trade involving Brandon, Eskit will look to continue his strong performance between the pipes
Timofei Runtso – Runtso is off to an impressive start to his WHL career. The rookie blueliner currently stands second in points among all WHL defencemen with three goals and ten assists through thirteen games played. Seeing plenty of ice time already early in his career, including time on the power play and penalty kill, Runtso’s offensive contributions combined with his defensive skill have proven him to be a critical addition to the roster so far.
Penticton
Andrew Reyelts – Vees starting goaltender Andrew Reyelts is shining so far to begin his first WHL season. In his eight games played, Reyelts has a league-leading .936 save percentage and 1.84 GAA with six wins and one shutout. With this kind of robust goaltending on both sides, this weekend’s matchup is shaping up to be a must-watch.
Jacob Kvasnicka – Kvasnicka has been on fire this season, humming at an assist-per-game pace with 19 points this season. The product of Minnesota has five multi-point games this season and will be relied on by the Vees to spark their offence against the Royals.
This weekend holds two exciting theme games on top of an exciting double-header between two provincial rivals with their eyes set on the division lead. Get your tickets for this weekend here.
