Team Matchup
Portland
The Winterhawks (25-23-4-0) are an important opponent for the Royals. Just four points ahead of Victoria in a tightly-contested Western Conference, Portland is a crucial matchup for the Royals in a battle for playoff positioning. The Winterhawks enter the week on a three-game win streak and are coming off back-to-back wins over their divisional rivals in the Seattle Thunderbirds. The season series currently sits in the Royals’ favour, with a 3-2 win back in late October.
Penticton
At the top of the B.C. Division, the Penticton Vees (33-11-4-3) are having a great inaugural season so far. The Royals hold a 3-2-0-0 record against the WHL’s newest team, but each game this year has been a tight battle with a strong focus on the defensive end for both sides.
Players to Watch
Victoria
Max Silver – The newest Victoria Royal, Max Silver was signed by the Royals on February 5 after being called up from the Victoria Grizzlies. Silver, originally from California, was tied for the team lead in points for the Grizzlies before joining the Royals, scoring 19 goals in 37 games in his second BCHL season.
Portland
Alex Weiermair – California-born forward, Weiermair’s WHL performance earned him a selection by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2025 NHL Draft. The 20-year-old is a physical forward who thrives in the transition game, leading Portland in points with 65 this season.
Penticton
Jacob Kvasnicka – In their first season as a WHL club, Penticton’s flagship forward has been Burnsville, Minnesota’s Jacob Kvasnicka. With three goals in his last two games, Kvansicka’s speed and shooting talent have been on full display. Victoria’s defence will have their work cut out for them facing a player like Kvasnicka on Saturday.
What’s Next
The Royals will complete the road trip next Monday in a duel with the Kamloops Blazers, before returning home to Victoria for a back-to-back against the Wenatchee Wild.
