Scott Steals Show On Johnny Bower Night
Prince Albert, SK – Ian Scott had another stellar outing for the Prince Albert Raiders (19-42-5-2) on Friday night, backstopping his side to a 3-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings (29-28-7-3) at the Art Hauser Centre.
Scott stopped 29 Wheat King shots to earn his 11th victory of the season.
Despite being outshot 14-4 in the first period, the Raiders left the period with a 1-0 lead. Zack Hayes scored his second goal of the campaign when he wired a shot from the point past Travis Child midway through the period.
Late in the second period, Brandon tied the game. Tanner Kaspick solved Scott with 1:38 to play in the frame to make it a 1-1 game after 40 minutes.
The Raiders had a great opportunity to take the lead with 4:26 to play. Parker Kelly was awarded a penalty shot, but he was turned aside by Travis Child. A minute later, Cole Fonstad capitalized on a turnover behind the net and stuffed the puck through Child to put the Raiders up 2-1. Curtis Miske added an empty-net goal with 31 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.
In a losing effort, Child made 32 saves for the Wheat Kings.
Prior to the game, the Raiders raised Johnny Bower’s Toronto Maple Leaf banner to the rafters in the Art Hauser Centre. The banner used to hang in the Air Canada Centre before this season. As part of their Centennial Celebration, the Raiders created new banners and delievered the original ones to the hometowns that produced each player.
