Raiders Ride Three-Goal First Period to Win Over Silvertips
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (3-6-1-2) scored three in the first period and didn’t look back as they skated to a 3-2 win over the Everett Silvertips (3-6-1-2) at the Art Hauser Centre on Friday night.
It was the only meeting between the Raiders and Silvertips after they met in the 2026 WHL Championship Series last May.
Kyle Obobaifo, Brandon Gorzynski, and Jonah Sivertson scored the Raider goals in the win. Brock Cripps chipped in a pair of assists.
The Raiders opened the scoring at the 7:04 mark of the opening period. After Cripps evaded a Silvertips defender, he dropped a pass to Benett Kelly. Kelly put a shot a goal that was turned aside by Bennett Byers, but the rebound came right to Obobaifo who put it into the empty side of the net for his first in the WHL.
Just 15 seconds later, Gorzynski doubled the Raiders lead. Alisher Sarkenov knocked down a pass in the slot from Cripps. Byers committed to the shot, and Sarkenov fed Gorzynski on the left wing. The Dallas Stars prospect made no mistake in finding the open net for his fourth of the year.
Sivertson struck six minutes later to make it a three-goal game. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect was given a lot of time and space to skate in from the left point and wire a shot past Byers for his second of the season.
The Silvertips got one back with 2:57 left in first. Michal Orsulak stopped Brek Liske’s shot of the rush. While it looked like the puck was covered, Reid Nicol jammed away at the puck and got it loose for the goal, making it a 3-1 game after 20 minutes.
Everett got back within one 7:54 into the second period with a power-play marker. The Silvertips passed back and forth across the offensive zone before it found the stick of Jaxsin Vaughan who redirected it past Orsulak.
In the third, the Raiders had a pair of great chances to take extend the lead. Cripps danced through four Silvertips and got a shot on goal, but Byers was able to get the knob of his stick on the shot to deflect it over the goal. Later, Eli Molde was turned aside by Byers on a breakaway.
The best chance of the period came on the stick of Sivertson. He was at the side of the goal and sent the rebound over a sprawling Byers and wide of the goal.
Orsulak was able to shut the door for the rest of the period making eight saves in the final frame. The Detroit Red Wings prospect made 31 saves to pick up the win.
At the other end, Byers stopped 24 shots in the loss for the Silvertips.
