Guhle, Wiesblatt Named to World U17s Roster
Prince Albert, SK – Two Prince Albert Raiders will be heading down east in November.
On Tuesday, defenceman Kaiden Guhle and forward Ozzy Wiesblatt were picked to represent Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Saint John and Quispamsis, N.B. The 66 players selected to Team Canada will be divided into three teams – Canada White, Red, and Black – and will compete against the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.
Both players attended July’s national under-17 development camp and were introduced to the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence.
Guhle was the first overall selection in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. The Sherwood Park, AB product has been steady on the Raiders’ blueline this season, producing an even rating through 10 games played. Coupled with extended time with the Raiders last season, the 6’3, 186-lb rearguard has played in 18 games for the Raiders, picking up an assist during his 15-year-old season.
Wiesblatt was drafted in the second round of the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. From Calgary, the 5’10, 187-lb winger has a pair of goals and an assist in 11 games this season. Last season, Wiesblatt scored in his WHL debut in his hometown against the Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The pre-tournament schedule consists of one game on Thursday, November 1. The tournament begins on Saturday, November 3 and runs until the gold-medal game on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 PM AST at Harbour Station in Saint John, N.B.
