Three Hurricanes Named to Team WHL
Lethbridge, AB – The Western Hockey League, in collaboration with the Canadian Hockey League, announced the roster for Team WHL for the upcoming 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series and three Lethbridge Hurricanes players will take part as Jordy Bellerive, Calen Addison and Dylan Cozens were all named to the team. Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio will also serve as an assistant coach for Team WHL.
Bellerive, 19, is a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect who was originally drafted by the Hurricanes second overall in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. The ‘Canes captain has recorded 13 points (6g-7a) along with 10 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. Bellerive was named to the World Junior Showcase camp in the summer but was unable to attend due to injury.
Addison, 18, is also a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect who was drafted second overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft by the Hurricanes. Addison has collected 11 points (1g-10a) along with 14 penalty minutes in ten games this season. The product of Brandon, Manitoba was drafted by the Penguins in the second round, 53rd overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Addison participated in the World Junior Showcase camp in Kamloops in August.
Cozens, 17, is projected to be the second overall NHL draft pick at the 2019 entry draft in Vancouver. Originally drafted 19th overall by the Hurricanes in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Cozens has recorded 14 points (5g-9a) along with four penalty minutes in ten games this season and leads the ‘Canes in scoring. Cozens is one of four draft eligible players that will suit up for Team WHL.
Kisio, 35, is in his fourth season as the Hurricanes head coach. The product of Calgary, Alberta is the third most winningest coach in Hurricanes history. Kisio will serve as an assistant coach for Team WHL in advance to being an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver and Victoria.
The Hurricanes, along with the Prince Albert Raiders and Moose Jaw Warriors, lead the WHL with players represented on Team WHL with three players each. Team WHL will take on Russia in Game 1 of the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series on Monday, November 5th in Kamloops before playing Game 2 in Vancouver on Tuesday, November 6th.
