Hurricanes Training Camp 2010 Wrap Up
Team 2 wins Championship game 3-2 over Team 4; Team 3 beats Team 1 in Third Place Game 9-3; Canes practice Monday and Tuesday – Depart for Kennewick Wednesday minus NHL Camp invites
Lethbridge, AB – Lethbridge Hurricanes Training Camp wrapped today with the final of the Intersquad Tournament. Team 2 battled back to a pullout a 3-2 win over the highly touted Team 4 to claim victory in the Championship game. The Canes now make their first cut down and assemble themselves in preparation for their preseason tournament in Kennewick, WA. With a trio of players leaving for NHL camps the Canes will have a 32 man preseason roster with 29 players making the trip to Tri Cities.
Championship Game – Team 2 vs. Team 4 – 12:30 – 2:00PM
Team 4 tallied the only goal of the first half when defenseman Adam Henry crashed the net to tip home the opening marker at 17:09. Henry, along with Coutts, AB product Brandyn Hulit are the two Hurricanes rookie d-men who will remain with the team for the preseason tournament. But it was veterans Mark Reners (2G), Jacob Berglund (1G) and Landon Oslanski (3A) who led a Team 4 comeback in the second half with Team 2 taking the lead with a trio of goals from Reners (2G) and Berglund all within a minute of each other with 8:26 to play in the second half. Team 4 continued to battle as they tallied late in the period off the stick of Graham Hood (1G,1A) – but it wasn’t enough as they fell 3-2.

Veterans Maxwell, Braes post big games, Johnston notches four assists to lead Team 3 to Third place win
The Canes veterans on Team 3 – perhaps still smarting from last nights tie breaker loss to Team 4 put an exclamation point on their camp with a 9-3 drubbing of Team 3 in the third place final on Sunday morning. Defenseman Daniel Johnston had a big game with four helpers while forwards Mitch Maxwell (2G,1A) and Cam Braes (2G,2A) showed off some of the Canes experienced firepower. Other goal scorers for Team 3 included Brett Printz (2G), Michael Sofillas and veteran d-man Cason Machacek. Max Ross had a pair of points for the losing Team 1.

The United Way of Lethbridge were on hand to take donations on entry for these two games and rosters were made available at the rink with any donation. The Hurricanes encourage you – the fans to continue to support this great cause.
Where to next Coach?
The remaining Hurricanes players will practice tomorrow morning – Monday, September 6 at 10:30AM at Adams Ice Centre. Practice will then be held on Tuesday at regular time – 1:30PM as the team prepares for departure early Wednesday morning for the Tri Cities’ Preseason Tournament in Kennewick, WA. Absent from the tournament will be the Hurricanes three NHL prospect camp invitees – Cam Braes (San Jose), Brody Sutter (Florida) and Brandon Anderson (Washington) who will depart for their respective prospect camps/tournaments. 32 players remain with the club at this point including all 19 returning players from the 2009-10 team. Rookies remaining with the team this week include nine forwards: Tayler Balog (BAA-log), Ryley Bennefield (BEN-Feld), Mitch Guiel (Guy-el), Alex Kuvaev (KOO-vie-ev), Russell Maxwell, Sam McKechnie, Brady Ramsay, Michael Sofillas (SO-fee-us) and Jaimen Yakubowski. The aforementioned two defensemen: Henry and Hulit as well as goaltenders Tanner Kovacs and Dylan Tait who will both see action this week in the absence of Anderson.
Preseason Update!
Tickets are still available for the Canes home preseason date on Tuesday, September 14th as the Lethbridge Hurricanes will play host to rookie standout Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Coaldale local Adam Kambeitz as the Red Deer Rebels come to town for a Preseason match up. This will be your only chance to see the brand new Lethbridge Hurricanes during the preseason on home ice.
This young Canes lineup will be fresh off their preseason tournament in Kennewick, WA and will undoubtedly be excited to be back in the ‘Bridge’ to play in front of the home town crowd. The hockey club is proud to host this game off site on the west side – the home of the CIS University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. With several former Hurricanes players taking advantage of their WHL Scholarship and choosing to play at the U of L, the Canes will be donating the proceeds of the 50/50 raffle to U of L Hockey.
Tickets are priced at $8 (includes GST) and are available for purchase only through the Hurricanes office located in the west parking lot of the ENMAX Centre. Doors open at 6:00 PM for this rush seating event while puck drop is 7:00 PM at Nicholas Sheran Arena (401 Laval Blvd. West).
