Hurricanes to Induct Mark Greig, Kevin St. Jacques to Wall of Honour
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Thursday that alumni Mark Greig and Kevin St. Jacques will be the 2022 inductees to the Hurricanes Wall of Honour. The duo will be inducted on Friday, February 4th when the Hurricanes host the Regina Pats at the ENMAX Centre.
Greig was an original Hurricane in 1987 playing through until 1990. The High River, AB product who now calls Lethbridge home appeared in 201 regular season games with the ‘Canes totaling 270 points (100g-170a) along with 300 penalty minutes while suiting up in an additional 26 post-season games collecting 42 playoff points (16g-26a) helping the Hurricanes to the 1990 Championship Series. He was named the Hurricanes Hardest Working Player and the Hurricanes Three Star Award winner in 1990 while also being named a WHL First Team All-Star in 1990.
As a Hurricane, Greig was a two-time 100-point scorer and sits 15th all-time in franchise goals (100), sixth all-time in franchise assists (170) and is ninth all-time in points (270). He is one of eight players in Hurricanes history to record 100+ points in a single season twice. He is one of nine players in team history to score 50+ goals in a single season while being one of four players to accomplish the feat twice.
Greig was a first-round draft pick of the Hartford Whalers, selected 15th overall, in the 1990 National Hockey League Entry Draft becoming the first Hurricane to be selected in the first round of the NHL Draft. He went on to play 125 career games in the NHL with the Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers. Greig played 1,125 games as a professional hockey player in the NHL, AHL, IHL and DEL. He helped the Springfield AHL club in 1990-1991 capture the Calder Cup Championship.
Post retirement, Greig has helped coach locally with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks and the Lethbridge U18 AAA Hurricanes. He has served as a scout for the Philadelphia Flyers since retiring in 2007.
St. Jacques was originally acquired by the Hurricanes from the Spokane Chiefs during the 1988-89 season. The Edmonton, AB product suited up in 234 regular season games with the Hurricanes over parts of four seasons where he tallied 300 career points (139g-161a) while adding an additional 44 points (23g-21a) in 45 career post-season games. St. Jacques helped the Hurricanes to back-to-back WHL Championship Series appearances in 1990 and 1991. He was named the Hurricanes Three Star Award winner and the Hurricanes Top Scorer Award winner in 1992 while being named a WHL Second Team All-Star in 1991 and a WHL First Team All-Star in 1992.
As a Hurricane, St. Jacques was a two-time 100-point player and one of just five players in team history to reach the 60-goal mark in a single season setting the all-time franchise record of 65 goals during the 1991-92 season. He sits 23rd all-time in career games played (234), is fourth in franchise goals (139), ninth in franchise assists (161) while sitting fourth in franchise points (300) while being one of just four players to reach the 300-career point mark. He is one of only two Hurricanes to lead the WHL in scoring during the regular season to claim the Bobby Clarke Trophy.
St. Jacques was a sixth-round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, selected 112th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play 928 career professional games totaling 1,036 points (346g-690a) in the CHL, ECHL, IHL, WCHL and UHL. He was a three-time WCHL Champion in 1997, 1998 and 2000.
St. Jacques retired from playing professionally in 2007. He currently resides in Carolina where he is the head coach of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes of the USPHL Premier while also serving as an assistant coach of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes of the USPHL Elite.
Greig and St. Jacques will join alumni Jamie McLennan, Wes Walz, Jamie Pushor, Jason Ruff, Bryce Salvador, Shane Peacock and Byron Ritchie in the Player Category of the Hurricanes Wall of Honour.
The induction ceremony will include an afternoon luncheon from 12:00pm to 1:30pm in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge at the ENMAX Centre.
