Canes Rout the Rebs
13th Annual Teddy Bear Toss nets 3796 stuffed Toys donated by Hurricanes fans
rLethbridge, AB – 5057 people packed the ENMAX Centre on Friday night for the 13th annual Global TV/Canadian Tire Teddy Bear toss and in the end it was an unlikely hero who tallied the 2008 Teddy Bear goal. WHL rookie Garrett Taylor notched his first WHL goal 5:56 into the first frame to ignite the home crowd and kick off a shower of stuffed toys. Juha Metsola notched his WHL leading fourth shutout of the season with a 17 save performance while Colton Sceviour (2G,1A) and Carter Ashton (1G,2A) each had three point nights. Dan Iwanski tallied his second of the 08-09 campaign for the other Hurricanes goal. The victory gives the Canes an overall record of 16-12-0-1 and extended Lethbridge’s winning streak to five.

rIn the end a total of 3796 stuffed toys were donated to the Chinook Regional Pediatric ward, the Salvation Army, Streets Alive Family Support, the Piikani Food Bank, the Taber Food Bank and the Lethbridge Inter Faith Food Bank. The Lethbridge Hurricanes would like to thank these groups, the fans and especially the nearly 100 volunteers who helped to make this special event such an overwhelming success.

rThe Hurricanes departed for Calgary tonight where the team will stay before attending a funeral service for fallen teammate Michael Maniago tomorrow morning. The Canes will then continue on their trip to Edmonton to take on the Oil Kings at Rexall Place on Saturday night.
