Six Hurricanes Prospects Invited to Provincial U-16 Camps
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce that six of their 2017 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft picks have been selected to attend their Province’s Under-16 camps.
Forwards Noah Boyko (16th overall) and Jacob Boucher (187th overall) will take part in Team Alberta’s camp. The pair are two of 80 players, and two of 48 forwards, invited to compete for a spot on the Team Alberta U-16 team. Alberta’s camp will take place July 4-9 in Camrose, Alberta. Both Boyko and Boucher played for the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers in 2016-2017. Boyko appeared in 33 games racking up 52 points (25g-27a) along with 14 penalty minutes while adding 18 points (7g-11a) in 14 post-season games. Boucher meanwhile collected 43 points (19g-24a) and 60 penalty minutes in 36 games and added five points (1g-4a) in 14 playoff games.
Defenseman Owen Forfellow (73rd overall) and forward Daniel O’Neill (130th overall) will attend Team British Columbia’s camp. They are two of 60 players invited to take part in the camp that is scheduled for July 11-16 in Shawnigan Lake, BC. Forfellow spent the 2016-2017 season with the Yale Hockey Academy appearing in 28 games registering six points (1g-5a) with 32 penalty minutes while O’Neill collected eight points (2g-8a) with 12 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Delta Hockey Academy.
While goaltender Bryan Thomson (37th overall) and forward Drew Englot (76th overall) will compete in Team Saskatchewan’s camp that will take place at Athol Murray College at Notre Dame in late July. Thomson and Englot both played the 2016-2017 season for the Notre Dame Hounds. Thomson appeared in 18 games posting a 3.72 goals against average and a .895 save percentage while Englot skated in 30 games with the Hounds collecting 14 points (4g-10a) and 34 penalty minutes.
Players who make their Provincial Under-16 teams will compete in the 2017 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup.
