Hurricanes Trade Swetlikoff, Picks to Blazers for Sydor
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday they have acquired 2003-born forward Dylan Sydor from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for 2003-born forward Blake Swetlikoff, a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a third-round draft pick in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.
Sydor, 20, was originally undrafted in the WHL Draft, but signed by the Blazers in 2021. The Kamloops, BC, product has appeared in 180 career regular season games in the WHL totaling 85 points (42g-43a) along with 45 penalty minutes and a plus-17 rating. He has also appeared in 31 post-season games with the Blazers collecting eight points (4g-4a) along with four penalty minutes.
“We’re really excited to be able to add Dylan to our forward group,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “He is a good skating forward who has the ability to score goals and is having a great season this year. His playoff and Memorial Cup experience last year will be very valuable for our young forward group.”
The 5’10, 170-pound forward has posted a career-high in all offensive categories this season with 19 goals and 30 points in 34 games with Kamloops. Sydor was leading the Blazers in goals and points this year. He is the son of former NHL defenceman and Stanley Cup winner Darryl Sydor.
Swetlikoff, 20, was originally acquired by the Hurricanes prior to the 2023 WHL Trade Deadline from the Spokane Chiefs. The Regina, SK, product appeared in 67 games as a ‘Cane over parts of two seasons collecting 33 points (12g-21a) along with 20 penalty minutes. He also appeared in four post-season games in 2023.
“It’s always tough to trade good people like Blake. He was a big part of our leadership group both on, but more importantly, off the ice during his time with the Hurricanes. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward and thank him for his contributions to our organization,” added Anholt.
With the trade, the Hurricanes three overage players now include: Joe Arntsen, Sean Tschigerl and Sydor.
The Hurricanes continue a four-game homestand on Tuesday when they welcome the Spokane Chiefs at 7:00pm before hosting the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday at 7:00pm.
