Hurricanes Earn 6-3 Win Over Ice

The Lethbridge Hurricanes returned to action on Tuesday at the ENMAX Centre as they earned a 6-3 win over the Kootenay Ice.
The Hurricanes had a good start to the game pinning the Ice deep in their zone but could not capitalize early. Kootenay opened the scoring with a power play goal 4:36 into the game as Cameron Hausinger tipped home his third of the season on a centering pass from Brett Davis to make it 1-0. Lethbridge equalized the game as Jordy Bellerive snapped home his fifth of the year off the rush to make it 1-1; Dylan Cozens and Danila Palivko picked up the helpers. With under a minute left in the period, the ‘Canes pulled ahead as Jadon Joseph tapped home his second goal of the season to make it 2-1 at the first intermission; Jake Elmer and Koletrane Wilson earned the assists on the goal. Shots favoured Lethbridge 17-10 in the opening frame.
Lethbridge continued to pepper the Ice goaltender Jesse Makaj in the second period as the ‘Canes outshot the Kootenay 19-10. After glorious chances by both Taylor Ross and Cozens failed to provide a goal, Elmer buried his team-leading eighth of the season on a three-on-one at the 11:55 mark to make it 3-1 Lethbridge. ‘Canes added another as Bellerive tapped home his second of the night with 3:16 left in the period; Nolan Jones and Calen Addison assisted on the captain’s sixth of the season as Lethbridge lead 4-1 after forty minutes of play.
The teams traded chances and goals in the third period. Kootenay cut the ‘Canes lead in half as Jaeger White had a puck pinball off him and into the net at the 8:34 mark to make it 4-2. Lethbridge answered back as Ross potted his seventh of the season before Logan Barlage ripped home his fifth of the year to make it 6-2. Kootenay added a late power play goal by Dallas Hines to round out the scoring to make a 6-3 final.
Shots in the third period favoured the Ice 13-9 in the third period, but Lethbridge had the edge in the game 43-33. The ‘Canes went 0/2 on the power play while Kootenay was 2/5 with the extra man.

The win for the Hurricanes improves their record to 4-4-0-2 on the season and 2-2-0-2 on home ice.
