Hurricanes’ Addison named WHL On the Run Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes defenceman Calen Addison has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending December 3, 2017.
Addison, a prospect eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft, registered eight points (1G-7A) in four games this week, helping the Hurricanes to three wins and six important points in the Central Division race.
Tuesday against the Portland Winterhawks, Addison chipped in a pair of assists as the Hurricanes mounted a third period comeback against the top team in the WHL, eventually winning 4-3 in a shootout. Friday, Addison scored the Hurricanes’ only goal in a 5-1 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
After going pointless in a 4-1 victory over the Victoria Royals Saturday, Addison exploded with a big offensive effort Sunday. In a 7-2 drubbing of the Edmonton Oil Kings, Addison potted five assists, earning second star of the game honours and the second star of the night honours in the WHL.
The 5-foot-11, 178-pound product of Brandon, Man. presently sits third on the Hurricanes in scoring with 32 points (6G-26A) in 27 games. Those totals also have ranked fourth in WHL scoring for defencemen. He’s the first player from the Central Division to win a weekly award this season.
Originally drafted in the first round, second overall, of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, Addison has been an impact player since his arrival at the WHL level, tallying 65 points (15G-50A) in 94 games. Four of those goals have come on the power play.
