Cozens Named to 2021 World Junior Roster
Lethbridge, AB – Hockey Canada announced Friday their 25-man roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship and Lethbridge Hurricanes Captain Dylan Cozens was one of 14 forwards named to the team.
Cozens, 19, represented Canada at the 2020 World Junior Championship helping Canada capture a gold medal in the Czech Republic. The Whitehorse, Yukon product collected nine points (2g-7a) along with six penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating in seven contests. The Buffalo Sabres first round draft pick is one of six returnees from last years championship team.
The 6’3, 185-pound forward appeared in 51 regular season games with the Hurricanes in the shortened 2019-2020 season totaling a career-high 85 points, including 38 goals and 47 assists, with 38 penalty minutes and a plus-23 rating. Cozens has skated in 179 regular season games with the ‘Canes collecting 223 points (95g-128a) along with 88 penalty minutes and a plus-49 rating.
Cozens is the first Hurricanes player to represent Canada at back-to-back World Junior Championships since Zach Boychuk won gold medals in 2008 and 2009.
A total of nine current WHL players and one WHL alumni will represent Canada at the tournament.
The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place in Edmonton, Alberta from December 25th until January 5th at Rogers Place. Canada will begin their gold medal defense on Boxing Day (December 26th) against Germany. All games will be broadcast on TSN.
