HIGH FLYING ‘CANES
The 1989-1990 Lethbridge Hurricanes were a special group of players. Not only did the team win their first ever Division Title and regular season Conference Title, the Hurricanes of 89-90 set a franchise best in victories posting a 51-17-4 record led by head coach Bob Loucks. That team also marched themselves all the way to the WHL Final before losing to the Kamloops Blazers in five games. During the regular season though, the team was dominant scoring 465 goals – an average of 6.46 goals per game over the 72 game schedule. Not only did that team set franchise records, it also matched some WHL records. That edition of the Hurricanes boasted the most 50-goal scorers on one team with five and the most 40-goal scorers with six: Corey Lyons (63), Kelly Ens (62), Mark Greig (55), Jason Ruff (55), Wes Walz (54) and Bryan Bosch (48). On top of that, finished second all-time with six players with 100 or more points in a single season.
