GAME DAY: Hurricanes Host Tigers in Final Game Before Christmas Break
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will play their final game before the Christmas break tonight as they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena at 6:00pm.
The Hurricanes (16-11-1-1) enter after falling 3-2 to the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Saturday to end a four-game winning streak. Hayden Pakkala and Noah Chadwick scored in the loss while Koen Cleaver made 21-saves. Lethbridge outshot Medicine Hat 34-24 in the game. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 12-2-1-0 record at home this season having won their last four home games.
The Tigers (19-13-1-0) enter on a three-game winning streak after earning the 3-2 win over the Hurricanes at Co-op Place on Saturday. Mathew Ward, Hunter St. Martin and Oasiz Wiesblatt scored in the win while Jordan Switzer was terrific making 32-saves. Medicine Hat enters tonight with a 7-8-0-0 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the fourth of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Tigers; Lethbridge has posted a 2-1-0-0 record so far this year as the home team as won all three contests. Both the Hurricanes and Tigers will complete a three-in-three weekend tonight. Thru 29: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 16-11-1-1 record (34 points) on the season after 29 games. The ‘Canes are 12-2-1-0 at home and 4-9-0-1 on the road so far this season. In 2023-2024, Lethbridge had posted a 15-12-2-0 record after 29 games. The ‘Canes were 15-13-2-0 last year after 30 games.
Central Diet: Lethbridge began a stretch of nine consecutive games against Central Division opponents on Friday. The Hurricanes will face the Medicine Hat Tigers three times, Edmonton Oil Kings three times, Red Deer Rebels twice and Calgary Hitmen once during the stretch. The ‘Canes are 6-5-0-0 against divisional opponents so far this season while having gone 68-43-7-3 against the Central over the last four years.
World Junior Trio: The ‘Canes will have three players represent their countries at the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Brayden Yager will represent Canada for the second straight season. Leo Braillard will also participate for the second-straight year representing Switzerland while Vojtech Port will suit up for Czechia. He was named to the team last year but wasn’t able to compete due to injury.
Jet-Is-In: On December 2nd, the Hurricanes announced the acquisition of Winnipeg Jets prospect Brayden Yager from the Moose Jaw Warriors. The former first-round NHL draft pick made is Hurricanes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd and scored his first goal as a ‘Cane. Yager has 284 career WHL points (116g-168a) in 235 career games. He has recorded four points (1g-3a) in two games with Lethbridge.
South Paw: The ‘Canes acquired goaltender Jackson Unger from the Warriors in a blockbuster trade along with Brayden Yager on December 2nd. The Calgary, AB, product made 18-saves in his ‘Canes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd. Unger has appeared in 127 regular season games in his career posting a record of 63-49-6-3. Unger joined Yager and Vojtech Port on the Lethbridge roster who were apart of the Warriors title last season. He is 4-0-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .911 SV% since joining the Hurricanes.
Climbing Ranks: Overage defenceman Logan McCutcheon suited up in his 250th career WHL game on November 16th against Victoria. He has appeared in 260 career games for the Hurricanes as he is 14th all-time in team history – two games shy of Carter Bancks (262) for 13th all-time. The former third-round draft pick (60th overall) in the 2019 draft is also ranked tied with Luc Theoret (128) for sixth all-time in defencemen scoring in Hurricanes history.
Century Mark: Hurricanes Captain Noah Chadwick reached the 100-point plateau with a goal against the Warriors on December 3rd. The Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick became just the 13th defenceman in Hurricanes history to reach the century mark. Chadwick has appeared in 172 career games with the ‘Canes amassing 102 points (27g-75a) along with 64 penalty minutes in his WHL career. He ranks tied for 12th all-time in defencemen scoring with Lee Sorochan (102) in ‘Canes history.
World Junior Manager: Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt is leading the 2025 Canadian National Junior Team for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. It is the second straight year Anholt has served in the role after leading the 2024 tournament which saw Canada eliminated in the quarter final. Hurricanes alumnus Brent Seabrook is also serving in the management group.
