Pair of Hurricanes to Attend NHL Rookie Camps
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Friday that 2001-born defenseman Alex Cotton and 2003-born forward Ty Nash will attend National Hockey League Rookie Camps with the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes respectively.
Cotton, 20, was drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth round (132nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The product of Langley, British Columbia has appeared in 146 regular season games with the Hurricanes in his WHL career totaling 104 points (29g-75a) along with 94 penalty minutes. The right-hand shot defenseman led all WHL blueliners in scoring during the 2019-2020 season when he finished with 20 goals and 67 points in 63 games. Last season, he recorded 26 points (7g-19a) in 24 games during the shortened 2020-2021 season.
The Red Wings camp will take place from September 16th until the 20th with their annual Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The tournament will include rookie rosters from the Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Nash, 18, was originally a ninth-round draft pick (183rd overall) by the Hurricanes in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft but was undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft in 2021 during his first year of eligibility. The product of Scottsdale, Arizona totaled 13 points (4g-9a) along with 15 penalty minutes in 24 games during the shortened 2020-2021 season. In two seasons with the ‘Canes, Nash has collected 28 points (10g-18a) along with 33 penalty minutes in 83 games.
The Carolina prospects showcase will take place from September 18th until 21st in Florida. The showcase will include prospect teams for the Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators.
The Hurricanes open their 2021 ENMAX Training Camp at the ENMAX Centre on September 9th with the annual Red vs. White Intra-squad game scheduled for Sunday, September 12th at 2:00pm. The ‘Canes will begin the 2021 ENMAX Pre-Season on Friday, September 17th when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Hurricanes will play a total of four exhibition games, which both home games at the ENMAX Centre.
Single game tickets for the 2021-2022 regular season will go on sale on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:00am.
